To illustrate is to make visible what words leave in silence.
I'm Lore García, a Colombian illustrator and author. My work is rooted in narrative: I develop picture book and literary illustration projects, and everything begins with the text. What I love most is the moment when, while reading, something appears that was never written: an absence that becomes a red thread, a village that turns out to be a dog's back. That's where the image begins.
Every story begins in my sketchbook, among loose notes and sketches, and finds its shape in the storyboard. That's where I decide the rhythm, the pauses and the exact moment the story reveals itself. I'm moved by characters who say a lot with the smallest gesture, and by formats that also tell the story, like a die-cut page or a wordless sequence.
I like to think of my path as a train. I boarded in Cali, studying Graphic Design at the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes. I made a long stop in Bogotá, where the specialization in Children's and Young Adult Literature at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana taught me to read before drawing. In 2023, the ICETEX Young Talent grant carried me all the way to Barcelona, to EINA (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), to specialize in Illustration for Children's and Young Adult Publishing. In 2025 I returned to Bellas Artes, this time to design and lead an illustration workshop for young people. And the train keeps moving.
Watercolor, graphite and colored pencil are the materials I always return to. When I work digitally, I use brushes made from scanned ink textures, so the hand is still there, with its tremors and its stains.
